WWF. A biography

20.04.2011 – 18.09.2011

WWF, the world-famous environmental organisation featuring the panda logo, was founded in Zurich in 1961. The 50th anniversary of this event is the reason why in 2011 the Swiss National Museum in Zurich will show an exhibition dedicated to the remarkable history of the organisation. Based on hitherto unexplored archival material and interviews with WWF VIPs including founding members, previous presidents and CEOs of key WWF national organisations in both Europe and the United States, a first part of the exhibition will show how an idea of a couple of dedicated British naturalists developed over time into a global network of environmental organisations. Exhibits ranging from foundation documents to three-dimensional installations and period rooms will bring this remarkable tale to life. A second, open-air part of the exhibition, situated in the museum’s courtyard, focuses on two of the most important environmental issues facing the world today: biodiversity and the ecological footprint. Visitors will be given insights into key aspects of these issues and will have the opportunity to calculate their own ecological footprint.
