Conservation
A conservation workshop with equipment
Conservation – that is, the long-term safeguarding of
the comprehensive material integrity of the objects in the collections of the
Swiss National Museum – is the central duty of the Collection Centre’s
conservators. They have undergone
specialist training in the disciplines relevant to the objects and materials
they handle in order to deal with the complexity of the issues and challenges
facing them. Each conservation and
restoration project is broken down into a series of measures or steps, which
are then analysed with regard to the problem at hand, harmonised with one
another, and carried out in a manner appropriate to the particular material.
