Discovering the garden: old varieties, current issues New permanent exhibition since 14 October There’s now a new way to explore the largest old-style kitchen garden in French-speaking Switzerland and its remarkable assortment of historic vegetable, flower and fruit varieties, with an interactive permanent exhibition that mirrors the four traditional squares of the kitchen garden. The emphasis is on both the 18th century, when the kitchen garden at Château de Prangins was laid out, and the issues that affect it today. These are illustrated by plants such as the Sept-en-Gueule pear – the basis for an exploration of biodiversity – and saffron Crocus sativus L., which will explain plant sexuality. There are also be fun and surprising ways for children to find out more about the plants, plus an audioguide taking visitors on an enjoyable outdoor tour. |
